There are various ways to introduce a new language into your child’s daily routine. One approach is to establish a word of the day, where you teach your child a new word along with its definition. You can then use the word in a sentence and encourage your child to create their own sentence utilizing the word of the day. This not only helps your child with language development, but critical thinking.
- Play-Based Learning
Children can learn new language and communication skills through play-based learning. Playing pretends and certain language development games can expose your child to new words, phrases, and turn-taking conversation. You can also encourage your child with ASD to play these games with their peers or siblings.
- Enroll Your Child in ABA Therapy
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is a treatment approach that can be used to support your child with ASD through language development and other behavioral interventions. By taking a structured, systematic approach to teaching language and communication, ABA therapists use techniques such as visual aids, modeling, and reinforcement to encourage age-appropriate language development.
ABA therapy can also help reduce problem behaviors that interfere with communication and target specific communication goals, such as increasing vocabulary and improving conversational skills.
